MG4 With a Flat Tyre, North Beach to Bassendean

Fast Response

Chelsea rang us with a flat rear tyre on her MG electric car in North Beach. Before booking she asked how the price works, so we explained it straight: a set hook-up rate, then a rate per kilometre for the distance.

We told her we would be there in about half an hour, and James turned up on time.

James picked up the car with Chelsea and a friend and took it to her parents' glazing business in Bassendean. The car was unloaded, Chelsea took a happy snap, and everyone was really happy.

Towing Tip: Towing an Electric Car

Tell us it is an electric car when you call. Most EVs should not be towed with their driven wheels turning on the road, so we bring a tilt tray or wheel dollies and load it with the driven wheels off the ground. If the car has a transport or tow mode, your owner's manual will show how to switch it on.

There is no true neutral. An electric motor is geared straight to the wheels, so rolling the driven wheels spins the motor even in neutral, and with the car shut down nothing is cooling it.
A flat 12-volt battery can lock an EV in park even when the main battery is full. If the screen is dead, tell us, so we come ready to free the brakes before loading.
EVs are heavy. The battery adds roughly 300 to 600 kg over a similar petrol car, so the truck and straps have to be rated for it.
An EV can be switched on and still make no sound. Before anyone stands in front of it, make sure it is in park and fully switched off.
After a crash, a damaged EV battery can overheat and catch fire hours later, and moving it can set it off. Leave it outside, well away from buildings, never in a garage overnight.
